Insulation Facing Description

 

FSK vapor barrier is a type of insulation facing material commonly used in commercial and residential construction. FSK stands for Foil-Scrim-Kraft, which refers to its composition. The facing consists of a layer of aluminum foil, a layer of fiberglass scrim, and a layer of kraft paper.

Aluminum foil layer provides reflectivity, reflecting heat away and contributing to thermal insulation. It also offers moisture resistance, helping to prevent the passage of water vapor.

Fiberglass scrim layer adds strength and tear resistance to the material, making it more durable and easier to handle during installation.

Kraft paper This layer provides a sturdy backing and helps to absorb any condensation that may occur on the surface of the aluminum foil.

FSK Vapor Barrier Applications:

Attic insulation: It is often used as a facing for attic insulation to prevent moisture from entering the insulation and reducing its effectiveness.

Wall insulation: It can be used as a facing for wall insulation in both new construction and retrofit projects.

HVAC systems: It is used in ductwork and other HVAC components to prevent moisture from damaging the equipment and reducing its efficiency.

Crawl spaces: It can be used in crawl spaces to help control moisture and prevent mold growth.
